Doris Jean Drummond was born at home at 314 Murray Avenue, Fairmont, WV 11.30.1928. She was the fifth and last child born to Delbert H. Drummond and Annie Claude Davis Drummond. During her school years, she was often asked to sign at school assemblies. She once sang on the local radio with Grandpa Jones, a country and gospel singer. She left school in her Junior year to help care for her sister Wilma Louise Drummond Swisher, after crippling arthritis took away Wilma's ability to walk or care for her young son, Mitchell "Mickie" Lee Swisher. Wilma's husband, George Swisher, introduced Doris Jean to a young man who was working on George's crew with Davey Tree Expert Company. That 17 year old was Cecil Grady Sansom from Julian, WV. The year was 1945. Doris Jean was 16. She was a clerk at McCroy's 5 & 10 in downtown Fairmont.

Doris Jean married Cecil at the Highland Avenue Methodist Church, Fairmont, WV on 3.12.1949. They had one child, a daughter, born on 9.5.1951, in Fairmont.

They lived in Michigan and Ohio before moving to Zephyrhills, Florida in July, 1965 because of a job transfer for Cecil.

Doris suffered from crippling arthritis and had multiple surgeries to remove calcium build-up and to have joints replaced. In the late 1980s, she lost the ability to take care of their home or do much for herself, but "I'm just thankful I can do as much as I can". When she left the house, it was via wheelchair.

Doris had a strong Christian faith and her positive attitude was an inspiration to many. She read and studied the Bible and read faith based books. Doris was a forgiving person who held no anger or hard feelings toward anyone.

She enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends. She wrote her mother 3 times a week as long as her mother lived and wrote Cecil's mother once a week during those same years. Doris hands were badly deformed from the arthritis, but she also kept in touch, via letters, with friends from WV, MI and Ohio until her death. (Phone calls were "long-distance" and cost too much).

She went shopping and out to lunch once a week with her daughter and attended church every Sunday with her daughter and son-in-law, until a week prior to her death.

Doris died at her home in Winter Park, FL. She was just 6 weeks past her 75th birthday.
