Lt. Wylie, of Circleville, Ohio, was a graduate of the Ohio State University and was a member of the Army ROTC.

He served with the 82nd Airborne Division in North Africa, Italy and Holland. He served in the 376th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion, A Battery.

On Sept. 17, 1944, Lt. Wylie was killed near Arnheim, Holland in Operation Market-Garden, the battle that inspired the book and movie, A Bridge Too Far.

In 1966 the Ohio State University shooting range in Converse Hall was dedicated by President Novice G. Fawcett in honor of Lt. Hugh W. Wylie.
