Omer was the fourteenth child of (Joseph) Edmond Lemay and (Marie) Josephine Corriveau. He was baptized at St. Marie's Church on January 14, 1917. His Godparents were, Omer Gagnon and Rosaline Turpin. He was born, raised and schooled in Cohoes, New York. He is survived by his parents, five sisters, Mrs. Leo (Josephine) Marcil, Mrs. Leo (Laura) Turpin, Mrs. Joseph (Emeline) Mainville, Mrs. Andrew (Lucie) Bouchard and Mrs. Armand (Marie) Thyot and four brothers Joseph, Albert, Private George (serving in Germany with the U.S. Army) and Ernest Lemay all of Cohoes.
Omer enlisted in the United Stated Army on 22 July 1938 and on 21 July 1941 was honorable discharged as a Corporal. He was in the 26th Infantry, Co C, a Ranger Unit(1938).
He joined the United States Marines 7 Oct 1941 and served with the Second Battalion, 29th Marines, 6 Mar Div. He gave his life for his country on 21 June 1945 at Okinawa, Ryukyu Island, Japan. He received his Purple Heart on 27 July 1945.
His body was moved to the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii
