CALVIN A. BAKER - CHATFIELD

The funeral for Calvin A. Baker will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chatfield, with the Rev. Clark Jaeger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Baker, 85, of rural Chatfield, a longtime area farmer and well-known fiddler, died Monday (July 18, 1994) at Spring Valley Community Memorial Nursing Home where he had resided since July 1.

In his younger years, he played the fiddle at hoedowns in the area, later putting it aside to play the saxophone. About 25 years ago he took up fiddling again and had played at a number of fairs, including the Iowa State Fair. He was the oldest participant in the Fiddlers Jamboree at Marigold Days in Mantorville in 1992.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield and an hour before the service Friday at the church.
