He was 18 when he enlisted on 9/4/1861 as a Private into "E" Co. of the 14th OH Volunteer Infantry. He was Mustered Out on 7/11/1865. Promotions: Corpl 1/1/1865. He was admitted to the General Field Hospital of the Army of the Cumberland near Chattanooga on 18 Jul with "night blindness." He returned to duty on 17 Sep 1864 and so missed the bloody battle of Jonesboro.
