He served in the War Between the States as a Lt. in Company B, Twenty-Eighth Infantry Regt, La. - Confederate
He was a member of UCV. His wife Mary L. Sligh,was a member of UDC. He was the son of George Benedict Sligh and Emily Bell Canfield. He married first to Mary Levenia Louise Butler, she died March 30, 1890 in Lincoln County, New Mexico and is buried in the Cedarvale Cemetery, White Oaks, New Mexico. He married 2nd to Victorlina J. Hutte in 1892 in Washington. She died April 3, 1942 in Los Angeles County, California.
