Death cert. indicated his parents were Bill and Lizzie [Jolly] Towner, and wife Pearl Towner. Cause of death carcinoma of bronchus. He was in the Jefferson Barracks, Veterans Admin. Hospital. Death cert. listed he was in WW I.

The web site for the state of MO. had the birthdate as March 7, 1893 for him. 163 DEP BRIG TO DISCHARGE, PVT. Honorabe discharge.
1920 census shows the brothers living in the same residence. Will was 27 and John 26 in the census.
The draft registration shows his birth date as Mar. 7, 1893. So the one given to us is probably wrong. The 1893 most likely correct. Says he was tall of medium build, has black hair, brown eyes. He showed himself as 24 and had a wife.
He could not sign his name and the x mark he made on the card was light with the left to right down stroke and heavy with the right to left downstroke.

In the 1930 census it shows he rented his home. was a truck driver and laborer.

There is a Jesse Smith, brother in law age 11 in the census with him and family. I do not know just which one he is related to, John or Elsa

He married to Elsa Pearl Brown in Centerville, MO.

The photo of the stone is with his son John and wife Norma.
