Dorothy Esther Emerson grew up in Morgantown, WV and attended Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, where she earned an undergraduate degree. A published poet by the time she was a teenager, Emerson was Poetry Editor for Scholastic Magazine as a young woman and she received many awards, including the Witter Bynner Prize for Undergraduate Excellence in Poetry, which she won on two occasions. Several of her poems were featured in the periodical, "Poetry" during her life. An anthology of some of her poems: "Eve's Primer," was published by the Wallace Stevens Society in 1991. She and husband, Frank Doggett, met at Rollins and were married for nearly sixty years.
