Wesley Alexander Gardner was a thin, mostly bald man, with a bushy mustache. He was described by family members, as having a stern personality. He loved music, and was a lay preacher.
Before his marriage Wesley taught school.
On April 15, 1900, he married former student, Mary Alzena James. Wesley had been Mary James' second grade teacher.
Wesley was a farmer, as well as working as a carpenter and a handyman.
Wes farmed near Niangua, MO until around 1914, when the family sold the farm and moved to Springfield, MO, where he worked as a carpenter with his brother, Joe W. Gardner.
After visiting his sister, Ora Parlee Gardner Carr, and her husband and family near Campo, CO, Wesley decided to move his family there.
Wesley built the family a dugout style home, with 1/2 walls and a regular roof. They farmed their land, which was located about 9 miles south of Campo, CO. Their main crop was broom corn.
Shortly after 1925, Wes and family moved to California, where Wesley Alexander Gardner would die in Richmond, CA on Dec 17, 1933.
Wesley and Mary Gardner had 5 children. James Jay Gardner, b. Sept 6, 1901- d. Sept 10, 1901, who was born and died in Niangua, MO. He is buried at Macedonia Cemetery, near Niangua. The next children were; Malcom Everet, b. Aug 16, 1903, Otho Lorinzo, b. Jan 4, 1908- d. 1/1991, Flora Lorinda, b. Oct 10, 1909- d. 4/1996, and Paul Curtis Gardner. March 23, 1919- d. 9/1975.
