Arthur (Art) Mierzwiak

Arthur Mierzwiak, age 79, of Toledo, passed away on August 24, 2006, at St. Anne Hospital.

He was born on November 4, 1926, to Clement and Pearl (Slowinski) Mierzwiak in Toledo. Arthur passed peacefully in the presence of his loving family and friends after facing illness with courage, strength and humor.

Those who knew Art loved him, and those who loved him will remember his biting wit and mischievous smile. He was always there to hear your new joke or story.

Whether you liked it or not, a joke or story of his own would quickly follow--luckily, he always made you laugh. We'll remember him for the greatness he has shown as a devoted husband, a loving father, and an ever-caring and concerned grandfather.

We'll miss his perfect golf swing, his never-ending collection of brimmed hats, his musky Old Spice aftershave, his impressions of body builders and boxers, and--who can forget--his crooked index finger. Art captured the elusive hole-in-one at Giant Oaks golf course. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal from the United States Army. He also retired from a lengthy and successful career at Jeep.

But his greatest achievement is the very man he was--a man of values, practicality, humor and love. We are going to miss you Art. (just don't blast Stan Kenton too loudly in heaven!) Arthur was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard Mierzwiak.

Surviving is his loving wife of 56 years, Hyacinth (Sieja); children, Charles (Mary Ellen) Mierzwiak, Michael (Janice) Mierzwiak and Karen Teeple; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Norbert (Virginia) Roberts and David (Marlene) Mierzwiak; sisters, Jacqueline Feltman, Loretta (Ed) Chlebowski and Barbara (Larry) Barton and sister-in-law, Henny Mierzwiak.

Family and friends may visit at the W. K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy., on Friday from 2-8 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Deacon Joe Kest officiating. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

The family suggests donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Art's family would like to express a special thank you for the loving and compassionate care shown by St. Anne's Mercy Hospital.
