Mr. Houseman was born Sept 23, 1914, in Marshalltown, Iowa, elder son of Frank and Blanche Houseman. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1936 with a degree in actuarial theory. During World War II, Metropolitan Life loaned him to the war department in Washington, D.C., to serve as a mathematician in the military planning division of the office of the quartermaster general. In 1958, Mr. Houseman moved to Dallas to help establish the Dallas office of The Wyatt Co., which was an actuarial firm now known as Watson-Wyatt International. When Mr. Houseman joined the Wyatt Co., there were 19 associates in the office. When he retired in 1979, there were about 150. He was well respected by everyone with whom he had ever worked. Mr. Houseman was a gifted clarinetist. He started playing the clarinet at about age 12. He won many awards in the state of Iowa. He continued playing the clarinet until three or four years ago. His love of music never waned. Mr. Houseman was also a gifted artist. He took up oil painting in the 1960s and painted many beautiful paintings that bring great pleasure to their owners. He is also survived by their daughters, Marilyn Strakowski of Nappanee, Ind., Patricia Houseman of Dallas and Kathryn Lobert of Arlington. All of Mr. Houseman's nine grown grandchildren have fun and treasured memories of their grandfather, which will be shared with joy with their spouses and his great-grandchildren, currently numbered at 14. We were blessed to have called him husband, daddy and grandpa
