Obituary for Harold T (Swede) Quarton

Harold T. (Swede) Quarton, 81, of Virden, passed away Thursday, Janauary 28, 1999, at 4:22 a.m., at Pleasant Hill Village in Girard. Born December 25, 1917, in Palmyra, he was a son of Thomas J. and Amy (Love) Quarton. He married the former Carrie Dana Edwards and was owner/operator of Harold Quarton & Son Bulldozing, retiring after over 35 years. He was a member of Grace Southern Baptist Church in Virdin.

Surviving are four sons, Randy (wife Morene) Quarton of Virdon, Tom (wife of Cyndi) Quarton of Virden. Larry (wife Ethel) Hays of Palmyra, Rich (wife Margaret) Hays of Thayer; two daughters, Haroldene K. Rigney of Broken Arrow, OK, and Martha J. (husband Floyd) Harbour of Nilwood, 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; one brother, Lester Quarton of Palmyra, one sister, Hilma Orr of Thomaston, AL; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on February 26, 1946, one daughter, Juanita Shirley, one granddaughter, Trudy Rigney who died in the Oklahoma City bombing; and one great grandson, Andrew Ryan Jones.

Visitation was held Sunday, January 31, 1999, 5-8 p.m., at Calvert and Perry Funeral Home in Virden where funeral services were held Monday, February 1 at 10:30 a.m. Rev. William Loafman officiated. Pianist was granddaughter Kelsey A. Quarton. Organist was Ellizabeth Skaggs. Burial was in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery in Carlinville. Palbearers were: Rick Rigney, Brian Shirley, Alan Love, Mike Tosh, Mark Quarton, Terry Quarton, Matt Harbour and John Harbour. Memorials are suggested to Sangamac ambulance in Virden or Virden Fire Department.
