John William "Bill" Brooks, 89, of Fairview (Daybrook community), departed his life on Monday (June 13, 2011) at Ruby Memorial Hospital due to an extended illness.

He was born on April 24, 1922, in Farmington, the oldest of 10 children.

Bill, who loved farming and always had work horses, was a happy, joyful person who loved to tease and joke with everyone. His favorite quote was, "Now don't rush me." He was a retired coal miner, a member of the United Mine Workers of America No. 1570, and attended the Church of Christ. He proudly served his country in World War II, serving from 1942 to 1945.

He is survived by two daughters, Margaret and husband Ralph Russell of Clarksburg, and Dottie Brooks who resides in Daybrook; and two grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Brooke Russell and Brandon Russell, both of Clarksburg. He is also survived by seven siblings, Maxine McDonald, 88, of Bridgeport, James Robert Brooks, 87, of the Arbors, Dale Brooks, 85, of Milfal, Betty Hepler, 84, of Milfal, Doris Hensley, 80, of Fairmont, Barbara Korsh, 75, of Farmington, and Jerry Brooks, 73, of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Helen Gorbey Brooks, on Jan. 13, 1995; his parents, Grant and Stella "Wolfe" Brooks; one brother, Lester Eugene Brooks; and one sister, Pauline Brooks.
