Ulysses Grant Conway, a well-known threshing machine and sewing operator, who resides in Lawrenceburg, was killed instantly Thursday morning about 10:30 when a power driven emery stone he was using to sharpen a saw broke and struck him in the head.

He was born in Douglas County, July 18, 1868, and [on Nov 25, 1888] he was married to Miss Susan T. [Buffington] and to this union was born five children. He is survived by Mrs. Susan Conway, the widow, Mrs. Arley Owens of Bishop, California, Lincoln and Dwight of Long Beach, California, Tim of Ash Grove, and Elisha of Poplar Bluff.

He is survived by eight grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Seth Robinson of near Miller, four brothers, Charley of Neosho, Edney of Verona, George of Aurora, and Ancel of Pierce City, two half brothers, Melton of La Russell and Orel of Avilla, a step-mother, Mrs. Fannie Conway of La Russell and several nieces. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon in the Baptist Church at Lawrenceburg, by Rev. William Prinkle. Burial was made in the Dunklin [Dunkel] Cemetery.
