John J. Troiano, 88, of Linden entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 16, 2010, at RWJUH at Rahway.

John was born in Koblenz, Germany, and came to New York City, as a baby and has resided in Linden for the past 86 years.

John was employed by the Linden Police Department from 1953 to 1980, retiring as a detective captain. He then was the undersheriff of the Union County Sheriffs Department from 1980 to 1994.

John was an Army Air Force captain of World War II, where he was a B-17 pilot, who flew 31 missions over Europe, and received the Distinguished Flying Cross.

John received a criminal justice degree from Union College, and attended the universities of Maryland, Michigan, NYU, and Ryder College.

John was a charter member of the Linden PAL, member of Roselle Golf Club, where he served two terms on its board of directors. He was a member of the Linden Knights of Columbus Council 2859, VFW Post 1397 Linden, and the Linden Police Superiors Association.

John was the beloved husband of the late Bette Young Troiano, who died in 2008. He was the devoted father of John "Jack" A. Troiano of Linden, and the dearest grandfather of Christopher and his wife, Kimberley, of Michigan.
