Elroy E. Jung, 79, of 1228 Kristel Heights, Kiel, died unexpectedly Jan. 5, 2006 at his home of an apparent heart attack. He was born may 13, 1926 in the Town of Rhine, son of the late Edwin and Eleanor Bunge Jung. Elroy attended the former Harrison Grade School in the Town of Rhine. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War. On March 6, 1954 he married Shirley Wilke at St. John's Lutheran Church, town of Sherman. Elroy farmed most of his life in the Town of Rhine prior to retirement. He was a lifelong member of Community UCC in Elkhart Lake, a board member of Tri-County Coop and was a member of the Elkhart Lake Lions Club for 33 years with perfect attendance. Elroy enjoyed hunting, gardening and playing sheepshead in numerous card clubs.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Shirley, of Kiel, one son, Dennis (Diane) Jung, rural Elkhart Lake, a half-brother, Robert Bunge, Fond du Lac, a half-sister, Shirley (Fritz) Horneck, Elkhart Lake and two grandchildren. He is further survived by one brother, Merlin (Betty) Jung, Kiel and one sister, Birdie Buchmann, Kiel, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his half brother, Lloyd Schmahl.
Funeral services will be held at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, Kiel, with the Rev. Michael Kennedy officiating. Burial will take place in the Kiel Cemetery.
