Charley was born in Mulberry, Arkansas to George W. Adams and Amelia Reed.

Charley's father had been rounded up and put in a stockade at Mulberry Arkansas Indian territory in 1880. He was shot and killed while trying (we think) to get away from the white guards at the time that the government was rounding up all the blooded Indians, 10% and above, and herding them to the Indian territory located in Oklahoma. His wife, Amelia Reed was Cherokee or Choctaw. We think she may have been Choctaw.

Charley's father had been previously married and he had two older half sisters: Maggie and Malissa. Charley's mother Amelia adopted the two older sisters. Then she later married Willian Neal Thompson and had several more children.

Charley Adams and Julie Proffitt were married in Hickory Indian Territory on October 6, 1901. They came to Wilbarger County in 1930. They were the parents of nine children: Grace, Lewis, Charles, Howard, Cleo, Alice, Viola, Ruth, and Gladys.

A reunion for descendants of Charles and Julia May is held annually at Orbison Park in Vernon. It is held in May on memorial day weekend, usually that sunday.
