Jas. F. Alford died at his home in east Dillon at 7 o'clock Thursday morning [August 3], following an illness of several weeks. Mr. Alford had been an invalid for several years, but was able to come down town occasionally until a few months ago when his remaining strength failed and he was forced to remain at home.

Mr. Alford was a son of the late J. Frierson and Annie Alford who were among Dillon's pioneer citizens. He was born in Dillon, attended the public schools as a youth and his entire life was spent in this community with the exception of a short time when he lived in Free State.

Mr. Alford was married to Miss Ada Hayes, a daughter of the late J.S. Hayes of Free State. He is survived by his widow and the following children: Annie Beck, Flora Margaret, Effie, Jimmie, and T.B. [Thomas Brooks] Alford. His surviving sisters and brothers are Mrs. C.H. Burroughs of Goldsboro, N.C., Mrs. William Gary of Tampa, Fla.; Howard Alford of Sumter, T.B. Alford of Charleston, and W.D. Alford of Tampa, Fla.

Funeral services were held at the residence at five o'clock Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J.A. Ward and Rev. F.J. Hay, and interment was made at Riverside cemetery.

The pallbearers were J.H. McLaurin, Albert Parker, A.B. Jordan, Calhoun Hayes, Robert Lane and C.L. Carmichael, Jr.
