NEVADAN DIES IN B-47 CRASH

Raymond Hagar Is Wreck Victim

Crash of a B-47 jet bombing plane claimed the lives of Captain Raymond Hagar of Sparks and two fellow airmen Thursday at Myakka City, Florida, it was learned here. The plane, with the three airmen the only occupants, crashed and exploded.

Born in Sparks, Captain Hagar was active in athletics at Sparks High School, from which he was graduated in 1939. He attended the University of Nevada, where he was a member of the football team and was affiliated with the Sigma Nu fraternity.

Joining the Army Air Force early in World War II, he was graduated from the bombardier school at Deming, New Mexico, army air field in December, 1943 when he was commissioned as a second lieutenant.

During World War II he was based in England and later Germany flying B-26's, and he later served with the occupation forces on the continent.

When the fighting started in Korea he was assigned to the Far East air force bomber command, was stationed at Okinawa, and participated in numerous raids on Korea. There he served as an observer, combination navigator and bombardier, on a B-29.

Captain Hagar returned home on leave in January, 1951, and for the last several months he had been stationed at Tampa, Florida.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Hagar of 707 Pyramid Way in Sparks, his widow, the former Mary Margaret Cardinal, whom he married in 1949, and their son, 18 months old.
