Harry L. Dodge age 88 of Canton, Ohio passed away Friday morning in Aultman Hospital. Born in Delta, Iowa on September 17, 1914 he was the son of the late, George and Frances Dodge. He was a 1932 graduate of Anderson High School in Indiana, he received his AB. degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1937, and his MDiv., degree from Oberlin College School of Theology in 1943. He was an ordained minister for the Church of God and pastored the Clear Creek Church of God near Jamestown, NY. from 1944-1946. He then entered the Public School System, as a teacher, in Dayton, KY. until 1948 at which time he went to the Bellevue, KY. High School where he taught until 1952. In 1952 be became Dean and Principal of the Alberta Institute in Camrose Alberta, Canada, serving until 1957. In 1957 he came to Canton and began teaching at McKinley High School where he remained until retiring in 1981. After retiring he worked for the Massillon Independent Newspaper. Mr. Dodge believed in the necessity of good government and ran on several occasions for Canton City Council. He was a member of the Eleventh Street Church of God, he served as a member of Ohio State Men (Church of God), and was a former business manager of Buckeye Council Boy Scouts of America, was a former Scout Master for Troop #212 and was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Verle Dodge.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Lois J. Dodge of the home. Two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven R. and Deborah Dodge and David C. and Jennifer Dodge. Three grandchildren, John, Keith and Kathi Dodge. One sister, Hazel Hulstine.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the Reed Funeral home with Rev. Randy Shafer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
