Services were held at 2 pm yesterday afternoon from the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church at Center City for Charlie Albert Jonason prominent farmer and son of pioneer parents who passed away at his Center City Home Sunday at 12:50 PM. Mr Jonason had been confined to his bed a week, death being caused by the infirmaties of advanced age. He was 84 years, 3 months and 8 days.
Besides his wife Mrs Christine Jonason he is survived by six sons and 4 daughters namely Russell and Ellwood Jonason of Shafer, Mrs Laurence Johnson of Eagle Bend, Mrs Oliver Johnson of Center City, Mrs Roy Engstrand of St Paul and Mrs Lester Carlisle of Rosemount. He also leaves three sisters and one brother. They are Alfred Jonason of Center City, Mrs Charles Bloom of St Paul, Mrs A B Slattengren of Riverside, Illinois and Mrs August Bloom of Chisago City.
Charles Albert Jonason was born February 24, 1862 on the old Westhorp farm three miles East of Center City. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Isaac Jonason who were born in Sweden and who named the farm "Westhorp" after a providence in the old country. During his youth Charles Albert Jonason worked hard. His parents were charter members of the Chisago Lake Luther Church and helped strengthen the foundation of that institution which later grew into one of the largest Lutheran Churches in America. Early in the sixties, his father, the pioneer Isaac Jonason was called away from the Westhorp farm to serve his country in the Civil War and upon his return the growing son, his pioneer farther and the family changed their little settlement from a pioneer abode in a well cultivated and growing farm development. While Charles was in his early youth only pioneers and Indians inhabited the section. He spent his entire life on the farm with the exception of the past six years when he went into retirement and moved to his present home in Center City. During his lifetime his work and main hobby was farming. He was an ardent fisherman and also participated in music having been a charter member of the Chisago Lake Swedish Male Chorus and sang in the church choir at Center City for a number of years. He was an active in church work being a deacon for a period of six years.

Only four years ago the deceased and his wife observed their 50th anniversary.
He was married in 1892 to Miss Christine Velander, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Isaac Velander and attended the Long Lake School where he received the rudiments of his early education. He was a man who had inherited the sturdy traits of the pioneer stock of Chisago County being straight forward, honest, hard working and loyal to family and friends besides being a cheerful citizen and one who became widely known and respected throughout this section. At the funeral services Rev J Walton Kempe, pastor officiated and musical numbers were given by members fo the Chisago Lake Male Chorus. Pallbearers were: John Anderson, Emil Grandstrand, Warren Mattson, William Bloom, Otto Lindell and C B Peterson. Remains were laid to rest in the Chisago Lake Cemetary.
