p. 165 June 15,1914 yesterday was the seventieth birthday of Mrs John K Karns Sr. He children and a number of neighbors spent the day with her at her home in Jackson Township. A fine dinner was served.
p. 242 February 2,1928 Mrs Esther An Karns, wife of John Karns,Sr, died Sunday at the age of eighty-three years. Mr and Mrs Karns have been residents of this county thirty one years. Mrs Karns is survived by her husband and four children, Burial was in Bethel Cemetery, twelve miles west of Garnett.

page 581: Feb 2,1928-Mrs Hester ( or Esther ) Ann Karns, wife of John Karns, Sr. died Sunday at their home on East 5th, Garnett. She would have been 84 in June. Mr and Mrs Karns have been residents here 31 years. She was born in Indiana, and married there at age 22. Eight children born, 4 survive: William, somewhere in Missouri; John,Florida; Grover,Iola; and Mrs William Halstead, Garnett.
Funeral yesterday at Farris Chapel by Mr Oyler of Church of the Brethren and burial in Bethel Cemetery, 12 miles from Garnett. Born June14,1844 at Portland,Jay,Indiana. Daughter died January 3,1928, at Laramie, Wyoming, Isaac died in infancy, J J cannot be located, Levi preceded her 18 years ago, Jan 19,Judy Ann died age 44 years.

Oct 20,1927---Mr and Mrs John Karns were married 60 years, October 28.Both were born at Por t land,Jay County,Indiana, and came to Kansas 45years ago.
LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT
We, John Karns and Ester A Karns both of Anderson County,Kansas and both being of sound min d and memory do make and declare this our last will and teatament, hereby revoking and annuli ng all former wills made by us or either of us and ratifying and confirming this and none oth er to be our last will and testament in the manner and form as follows to-wit:
It is our will and desire that on the death of either of us that the expense of the last il lness and funeral expenses and just debts be paid as soon as possible and all property belong ing to such deceased whether real, personal or mixed to be and become the property of the sur vivor of either of us, during the natural life of said survivor with full power and authorit y to have, hold, use, convey or other wise dispose of said property as survivor may desire.
On the death of the survivor of either of us, it is our will and desire and we hereby joint y and severally devise and bequeath all the property in the hands of the said survivor at th e time of his or her death whether real, personal or mixed..after the payment of the just deb ts and funeral expenses of said survivor..to the following named persons as follows to-wit:
First-To our son, William S Karns, one-sixth (1/6)
Second-To our son, Grover C Karns, one-sixth (1/6)
Third-To our son, J J Karns, one-sixth (1/6)
Fourth- To our daughter, Diannah E Halstead, one-sixth (1/6)
Fifth- To our daughter, Olive M Hooker, one-sixth (1/6)
Sixth-To our grandson, Floyd Karns, 0ne-eighteenth (1/18)
Seventh-To our grandson, Fred Karns, 0ne-eighteenth (1/18)
Eighth- To our grandaughter, Emma Karns, one-eighteenth (1/18)
And lastly we do hereby constitute and desire and appoint George W Hunley, Executor of th is our last will and testament and desire that our Executor shall not be required to give bon d for the performance of the duties of that office. In testimony whereof we have hereunto se t our hands and seals this 12th day of October, 1921.
