Samuel (Sam) M. Duff,
formerly of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, died in Palatka, Florida on July 24, 2011, at the Roberts Hospice Care Center. Born on July 31, 1916, in Spencer, Kentucky, he was the son of the late William Green Duff and Lenna Bunner Duff. He was the youngest of four children, all of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Lucille Farmer Duff, and by his son, Ronald F. Duff. He is survived by his daughter, Betty Jane White, and her husband, Noel White; six grandchildren, James M. Duff (Dinah), London, Kentucky; Ronald Alan Duff (Lori), Knoxville, Tennessee; Rhonda Duff, Jason Duff, and Mary Jane White, all of Lexington, Kentucky; John Noel White (Lori), Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; along with six great grandchildren.
Mr. Duff was a farmer, a clerk for the railroad and Weckesser's Hardware before buying his own business, the Duff Wholesale Company, which he ran for 27 years. A member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, he served as President of the Methodist Men and Chairman of the Official Board. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Watson Lodge of Mt. Sterling, where he served as Noble Grand and was honored with his 50 year pin. The last five years he was a resident of Penney Retirement Community in Penney Farms, Florida.
His memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 29, at the Taul Funeral Home on Main Street in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until time of service. Burial will be at the Macphelah Cemetery in Mt. Sterling.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the San Mateo Presbyterian Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 57, San Mateo, Florida 32187.
