U.S. Congressman. Moving to Pasadena, California, in 1877, he engaged in fruit growing and the real estate business. He was Los Angeles County Clerk, (1899-1903) and a member of the California State Senate, (1907-12). In 1913, he was elected as a Progressive Republican to the Sixty-third Congress, serving until 1915. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his former business interest and was secretary of the Pasadena Mercantile Finance Corporation, until his death at age 69.
