Marilyn J. Stauber, 73, of Saginaw, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011, in her home surrounded by her family.

She was born Feb. 5, 1938, in Duluth to Harold and Dorothy (Thompson) Froehlich.

Marilyn graduated from Toivola-Meadowlands High School in 1956 and from UMD with a BS degree in K-6 elementary ed teacher and a minor in English in 1969. She earned her master's in education from UMD.

Marilyn worked for the Proctor School District 704 from 1969-1998 teaching grades 1-4 and Title 1 grades K-8. She also volunteered as a private tutor to many.

Marilyn was an active member of Forbes United Methodist Church and was a member of Arrowhead Reading Association, National Reading Association, National Education Association, Phi Delta Kappa, VFW, American Legion, DAV, Eastern Star, Proctor Book Club, and North Shore Sounds. She also volunteered at House of Hope, and St. Luke's hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Stauber; previous spouse William O'Reilly; and her parents.

Marilyn is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Sherry) Atkinson of Cottage Grove, Minn., and James (Julie) Atkinson of Meisville, Minn.; brothers Milton (Meredith) Froehlich of Annandale, Minn., and James (Berit) Froehlich of Duluth; sister Carolyn Salo of Grand Rapids; grandchildren David, John, Jennifer, Kurtis and Scott Atkinson; extended family Tony Stauber, Betty Stauber Semac, Dell (Jean) Stauber, and Ron Stauber; special friend Ron Maki; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

VISITATION: 5-7 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. service by the Order of the Eastern Star Euclid Chapter 56 today, July 29, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, July 30, in Forbes United Methodist Church, 33 Grover St., Proctor, officiated by Pastor Pamela Barbour.

A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow the service in the church social hall. A private inurnment service will be held at a later date at the Meadowlands Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Order of the Eastern Star Euclid Chapter 56.
