Joe Don Kenworthy, age 82, was born on 17 FEB 1929, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Andrew F. Kenworthy and Leah (Roff) Kenworthy.

He attended school in Oklahoma City, Durant and Oil Center, New Mexico, before graduating from Odessa High School in Texas, while living in Goldsmith, Texas. He earned a bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas Tech University in 1950. Immediately afterwards, he married Marja Helen Brown, also from Goldsmith, with whom he remained until his death, 61 years later.

Joe spent his entire working career in the oil fields, first working as a 13 year old with his dad on a cleanout rig near Goldsmith, Texas. He worked 28 years with Kewanee Oil Company, retiring in 1978 to form Kenworthy Operating Company, which remained his passion to the very end. Joe was active in Boy Scouts, serving as Cubmaster and Scoutmaster for his sons. He loved golf, traveling in his motorhome, playing bridge, competing in anything, laughing with family and many, many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Marja; sons, Bill (Susan) Kenworthy, from Desota, Texas, and Kevin Kenworthy, from Falls Church, Virginia; 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Medford, from Amarillo, Texas. Joe was pre-deceased by a daughter, Karen Kenworthy. He will be profoundly missed by his family and friends, but are conmforted knowing he is with the Lord. Services were held on Monday, 01 AUG 2011, at Christ United Methodist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, under the direction of Moore's Southlawn Funeral Home of Tulsa.
