A Mass of Christian Burial for George Thomas Berta was conducted Thursday, Sept. 10, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Father Gerald Guida, S.J. officiated. A parish rosary was recited Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Vase Funeral Chapel.

Interment was in the Paul J. Wataha Memorial Park in Rock Springs.

The pallbearers were Art Beveridge Jr., Mike Fitzgerald, Keith Fitzgerald, John Lee Jr., Neil Kourbelas and Rennard Jensen.

Berta, 80, of 1587 Donalynn Drive, Rock Springs, died at his home at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, 1987.

A life-long resident of Rock Springs, Berta had been in ill health since February. He was born in Rock Springs Feb. 22, 1907, the son of the late Joseph T. and Marietta Ghia Berta.

He attended school in Rock Springs and was a graduate of the Rock Springs High School with the class of 1924. He married the former Cora M. Beveridge in Rock Springs on Aug. 24, 1936.

Throughout his life, Berta had many management positions in Rock Springs. He was a former steward at the BOP Elks Lodge and former manager of Howards Restaurant. He also owned his own butcher shop, the American Meat Market, and Berta Transfer Company. Berta was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and the BOP Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Cora of Rock Springs; one son, Victor T. Berta of Idaho Falls, Idaho; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Overy of Rock Springs; one sister, Kate Kudar of Jackson; one brother, Joseph Berta of Denver; two grandchildren, Natalie M. and Nathan Overy, both of Rock Springs; one cousin, Tom Delmastro of Rock Springs and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Berta ws preceded in death by two brothers, Victor and John Berta, and one sister, Lillian Dunn.
