CLAUDVILLE, VA ~ Mr. Pate Eugene Bowman, 92 of Claudville, VA, passed away March 29, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County.

Mr. Bowman was born in Patrick County, VA, May 1, 1915, to the late James Manuel and Addie Minnie Smith Bowman.

He was a retired jailor for the Patrick County Sheriff's Office.

Mr. Bowman is survived by his wife, Lois “Ergie” Nunn Bowman of the home; daughter and sons-in-law, Beatrice and Trenton Spence and Philip Anderson, all of Claudville; sons and daughters-in-law, R.C. and Bonnie Bowman, Johnny Bowman, and Rita Bowman, all of Claudville; one brother and sister-in-law, Wade and Ernie Bowman; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a very special family friend, Rachel Love.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Ann Bowman; a son, Buddy Ray Bowman; two grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at Dry Pond Church of Christ by the Rev. James Percival with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy where his body will remain until time to be taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
