Irene was born in Huntsville, Alabama to James and Callie (Harbin) Tipton on July 23, 1914. She grew up in Huntsville and later moved to Barnesville, Texas. In 1938 she married Harvey J. Adams and they made their home in Palmer, Texas. For 10 years Irene worked as a seamstress for Hager Slacks, and she worked 4 years as a seamstress for Donovan-Galvanti. She later went to work for Ennis Automotive for over 20 years working on the assembly line. Irene was a member of the Fundamental Baptist Church in Palmer and she also loved to quilt.
She is survived by one son: Bobby Joe Adams and his wife Lillie of Lancaster, two daughters: Martha and her husband A.J. Gidron of Palmer, and Mary and George Cook of Ferris: two sisters, Iva Thomas of Irving and Annie Harris of Azle; five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and six great great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Harvey J. Adams in January of 1994, six brothers, one sister, and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 21, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. in the J. E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Palmer. A celebration of her life will be held Friday, July 22, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Fundamental Baptist Church in Palmer with Reverend Gary Miller officiating. Interment will be held at the Palmer Cemetery under the direction of J. E. Keever Mortuary in Palmer.
