MANSFIELD, LA - Funeral services for Joyce Jean Chesnut Hall, 85, will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, July 31, 2011 at the chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield. Officiating will be Revs. Thumper Miller and Joe Waggener. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Saturday, July 30, 2011.
Joyce was born the oldest of three children, March 7, 1926 in Brazos, Texas to Aaron Robert and Mabel Melissa Owen Chesnut. At an early age her family moved to Mansfield, Louisiana where she remained a life long resident until her death. She met the love of her life, Calvin (Lefty) Hall, during her high school years at Mansfield High and they married in 1942, spending more than 61 years together. Calvin died the day before their 62nd anniversary.
Joyce died on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at DeSoto Regional Health System. Better known as "Mimi" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Joyce was a homemaker, mother, and caregiver, but most of all a Christian who loved and worshiped God. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church and the Faith Sunday School class. She loved spending time with family and friends and looked forward to the family Sunday afternoon coffee together. Mimi loved all animals and would gladly take in any stray that appeared at her doorstep.
Mrs. Hall is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Calvin W. Hall, brothers, Aaron Robert Chesnut, Jr. and Max Wayne Chesnut; and grandson Kyle Taylor Hall.
She is survived by sons, Calvin "Butch" Hall III and wife Brenda, of Mansfield, LA, Louis C. "Gus" Hall III and wife Jean, of Mansfield, LA and Kirk Hall and wife Cathy, of Lakeland, FL; grandsons, Scott Hall, Eric Hall, Matthew Hall, Chad Terra, Bryan Terra, Christopher Hall and Corey Hall. Joyce is also survived by her constant companions, Tiger her cat, and Mitzi and Cody her dogs.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Mansfield, DeSoto Regional Health System Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.
The family would like to send a special thanks to her caregivers Tiny, Beatrice, Michelle, Maxine, Odessie, Shirley and Annette.
