Joyce was born the oldest of three children, March 7, 1926 in Brazos, Texas to Aaron Robert and Mabel Melissa Owen Chesnut. At an early age her family moved to Mansfield, Louisiana where she remained a life long resident until her death. She met the love of her life, Calvin (Lefty) Hall, during her high school years at Mansfield High and they married in 1942, spending more than 61 years together. Calvin died the day before their 62nd anniversary.

Joyce died on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at DeSoto Regional Health System. Better known as "Mimi" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Joyce was a homemaker, mother, and caregiver, but most of all a Christian who loved and worshiped God. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church and the Faith Sunday School class. She loved spending time with family and friends and looked forward to the family Sunday afternoon coffee together. Mimi loved all animals and would gladly take in any stray that appeared at her doorstep.
