Ephrim Downard was born near Uniontown Pa., Nov. 7, 1831, and died near Stockport,
Iowa , at 6 o'clock Wednesday morning, November 11, 1914, aged 83 year and 4 days.
He came to Iowa with his parents in 1845 and settled in Cedar township, this
county, where he ever after made his home.
He was married to Margaret Brown Payne on Nov.23, 1858. He is survived by his
widow and seven children. an infant son having proceeded him in death.
The living children are; Benjamian F. and John L. of Bentonsport; James A., of
Rupert Idaho; Charles w. of Bloomfield Iowa; Joseph J., Mrs. Mary E. Mellen, and Mrs.
Sarah E., all of Stockport.
Mr. Downard was a member of a family of 11 children, of whom, 3 brothers and
four sisters survive him; John H. of Fairfield, Joseph of Stockport; Isaac N. of Charitod
Iowa; Mrs. Martha Brownfield of Fairchance, Pa. Margaret of Stockport; Mrs. Hanna Cross
of Brookwater, Neb. and Mrs. Rachel Klise of near Stockport.
The deceased was a member of the free will Baptist church of Utica, also of
lodge No. 541, A.F. and A.M. at Hilllsboro, Iowa.
Funeral services were held in the United Free will Baptist church Nov.13, at
10 o'clock, conducted by the rev. Chas Carroll , internment in the Miller chapel cemetery
