Hogan, Marilynn M.
Of Traverse City, age 91, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2011. Born June 17, 1920 in Ann Arbor, she was the daughter of John L. and Marie (Rowe) Osborn. She often joked about "growing up in the jail," for her father was Sheriff of Washtenaw County for most of her formative years. The family's apartment was on the floor above the jail. In 1941 she married the love of her life, Paul K. Hogan, who preceded her in death in 1991. Marilyn and Paul resided in Ann Arbor their entire married life, raising and nurturing their family with many extended family members nearby. She worked as a purchasing agent for the Chemistry Department at the University of Michigan for 15 years. It was not until 1999 that she left Ann Arbor and moved to Traverse City. Marilynn's family and friends were always closest to her heart. She found pleasure in homemaking, cooking and gardening, pursuing each with creativity and joy. Her home was truly a haven for all, and she felt "One is nearer to God in a garden, than anywhere else on earth." Each day Marilyn spread happiness with her beautiful disposition and smile - gentle, kind and loving to all - beloved by all. She is survived by her daughters, Pam (Paul) Boesen of Williamsburg and Suzanne Hogan of Traverse City; two grandsons, Paul (Elizabeth) Boesen of Falls Church, VA and Matthew (Christal) Boesen of Woodberry Forest, VA; five great-grandchildren, Erik, Megan, Hannah, Zack and Emily; and one brother, Charles (Marileigh) Osborn of Haines City, FL. We all cherish her memory and celebrate her life. Marilynn will be interred in the family plot at Washtenong Memorial Park in Ann Arbor. There will be a private family service at a later date.
