Milo was born November 13, 1817, in Labrouf Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania, died October 6, 1896, in Sioska, Barron County, Wisconsin, and was buried in Lake View Cemetery, Chetek, Barron County, Wisconsin. His military style gravestone is inscribed "Milo Alford Co. A. 2nd Wis. Inf."

Milo married six times with his first marriage March 25, 1838 to Emily Lathrop in Rockport Township, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. She was born October 29, 1806, in New London County, Connecticut, and died May 22, 1891 in Oramel, Allegany County, New York. Their children, including one, name unknown, who died in infancy, were:

Infant Daughter born Dec 1840, died same month
Byron 25 Mar 1842
Charles B. 15 Nov 1843
DeWitt C. 15 Mar 1846

Charles B. Alford served as a 1st Lt. in Company F. of the 130th New York Infantry, afterwards known as the 1st New York Dragoons, and was killed at Smithfield, Virginia August 29, 1864. On March 17, 1865, Emily was granted a Mother's pension based on his wartime service. Byron Alford died at Eldred, Pennsylvania in 1899. The last named child was born at Fettermans's Run near Union City, Pennsylvania.

In 1850, when Emily was suffering from ill health, Milo hired Jane Slater as a domestic to care for her. He and Jane spent immediately took to each other which caused trouble with his wife, who when her health improved, took the children and moved to her father's place in Darien, New York. A year later Milo convinced her to take him back and the family moved to Fillmore, Allegany County, New York. In 1856 they moved to Oramel, New York, and Jane Slater once more joined the family. In 1856, Milo left his family and he and Jane moved to Portage, Columbia County, New York. There was never any formal divorce by either Milo or Emily, but articles of agreement were drawn up in which they agreed to nothing further to do with each other.

Milo's second marriage was apparently a common law one with the above mentioned Jane Slater, whose last name may have been Slack. They apparently separated and her whereabouts were never mentioned in his pension file.

Milo's third marriage occurred on February 19, 1861 to Eliza Colvert at Portage, Columbia County, Wisconsin. He received a divorce from her on June 16, 1871 in Sauk County, Wisconsin.

Milo's fourth marriage was in about 1872 to Lovico Moore, who died March 19, 1884.

Milo's fifth marriage was in April 1877 to Hannah Campbell
with whom he lived a few weeks before they separated. It was learned that she had failed to obtain a divorce from her prior husband who was still living. She later married Henry Dresden and died March 12, 1901.

Milo's sixth and last marriage was November 2, 1893, when he was united in marriage to the widow, Mrs. Ladorna C. Miles, at Sumner, Barron County, Wisconsin. She was born April 13, 1836, in Birdsail, Allegany County, New York, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Glover, died December 24, 1922, in Sumner Township, Barron County, Wisconsin, and is buried beside her husband in Lake View Cemetery. The family plot contains a headstone inscribed "Wilson Miles Alford" in honor of the last names of Ladorna's three husbands. Other gravestones in the plot were inscribed "Father James B. Miles Jan. 24, 1825 – Dec. 22, 1883."; "Mother L.C. Alford Apr. 13, 1836 – Dec. 24, 1922."; "Father Albert M. 1862 – 1932."; Mother Phiulena C. 1872 – 1950."; and "Daughter Myrtle 1898 – 1966."

On January 26, 1863, Milo filed Application No. 8,820 for an Invalid Veteran's Pension, which was approved under Certificate No. 14,000. On October 27, 1896, Ladorna C. Alford filed Application No. 642,377 for a Widow's Pension. There is no record at the National Archives that this application was approved or rejected. However, there is letter dated June 19, 1903 from the Law Division of the Bureau of Pensions, in which the Chief of that Division laid out all the various marriages of both Milo and Ladorna and determined that Milo had never been legally married to anyone except his first wife Emily, and that after her death, he was legally free to marry. Since his marriage to Ladorna occurred after Emily's death, Ladorna was legally regarded as his widow.

Ladorna had been married twice prior to her marriage to Milo. Her first marriage was May 5, 1852, when she was united in marriage to Orren or Orin M. Wilson, in a ceremony performed by John O. Seroya, J.P., at Waukesha, Wisconsin. Their known children were:

Harriet M. born 17 Oct 1853
Samira E. 3 Jul 1857
Alvah M. 11 Jul 1861
Arthur A. 17 Jul 1863

Orin M. Wilson was a Civil War soldier. He enlisted February 16, 1864 at Waukesha, Wisconsin, to serve three years as a Private in the 28th Wisconsin Infantry. On March 11, 1864 he was mustered into Federal service with Company A at Madison, Wisconsin. At that time he received $60.00 of his $300.00 Federal enlistment bounty and was listed as a 34 years old, 5'7" tall farmer with brown hair, blue eyes and a light complexion born in Pomphret, New York. His enlistment was credited to Brookfield, Waukasha County, Wisconsin.

On May 24, 1864 Orin was assigned to Company A by virtue of Special Order No 35, Hd. Qrs. 28th Wisconsin Infantry. On August 8, 1864, he died of chronic diarrhea while hospitalized at Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Ladorna's second marriage was December 25, 1865, when she was united in marriage to James B. Miles, at Sumner Township, Barron County, Wisconsin. He was born January 24, 1825, died December 22, 1883, and is buried in Lake View Cemetery. They were the parents of six children, of whom three daughters died in infancy. The fternoon children, three boys, whose dates and place of birth are unknown, were:

Andy
Almon
Archie

In the 1890 U.S. Census, Special Schedule, Milo C. Alford was listed as living in Sumner Township, Barron County, Wisconsin, and as having served as a Private in Company G of the 2nd Wisconsin Infantry, from April 21, 1861 to Dec 20, 1862, fro total service of 1 year, 7 months and 20 days.

Milo was a Civil War veteran who enlisted, April 26, 1861, at Portage, Columbia County, Wisconsin, to serve three years as a Private in Company G of the 2nd Wisconsin Infantry. On June 11, 1861, he was mustered in with Company G at Madison, Wisconsin. At that time he was listed as a 43 year old, 5'10" tall carpenter, with gray hair, gray eyes and a dark complexion.

On September 17, 1862, Milo was wounded in the left side of his chest near Sharpsburg, Maryland, during the battle of Antietem, and was hospitalized at Baltimore, Maryland.

On November 22, 1862, he received a physical examination and it was determined that he was unable to perform the duties of a soldier. He was considered 50% disabled and on December 20, 1862, he was discharged under a Surgeon's Certificate Of Disability, at the United States Army General Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland.

On February 2, 1865 Ladorna Wilson filed Application No. 81,653 for a Widow's pension, which was approved under Certificate No. 58,566. On February 5, 1867, subsequent to her marriage to James B. Miles, she filed Application No. 81,653 for pension for her minor children, which was approved under Certificate No. 58,566 at the rate of $2.00 per month for each child under the age of 16 years.
