Mr. Ahner was a retired farmer and heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, the Murphysboro Senior Citizens, American Legion Post 127 and the VFW Post 7190. Mr. Ahner was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was born Jan. 20, 1924, in Jackson County, to Paul and Laura (Hemmann) Ahner. He married Margaret Ann McNeill on May 27, 1944, in Jacob. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Karen Ahner of Murphysboro and Gary and Judy Ahner of Pinckneyville; two daughters and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Darrell Clendenin of Gorham and Laura Jane and James Arbeiter of Jacob; 10 grandchildren ..., and one sister, Irene Niederstadt of St. Louis. His parents, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
