During his life Nathan served in the US Navy on active duty for two years and over 20 years of service in the Navy Reserve in Nashville, TN. After his military service Nathan worked for several companies as a diesel mechanic. He retired from Yellow Freight after more than 25 years. He married Faye Pope and they had one son, Ralph Douglas Burnette born Feb 16 1957 and died December 17, 1984. Ralph was married at the time of his death but had no children. He was buried at Harpeth Hill Cemetery in Davidson County.
