Velma F. (Thurlow) McQuaide of Cinnaminson died Saturday, July 30, 2011. She was 89.
Born in Yakima, Wash., Velma was a Cinnaminson resident since 1957.
She was the beloved wife of 54 years to the late James R. McQuaide Sr.; loving mother of Mary Cascio (Lou), James R. McQuaide Jr. (Lois), Anne Huber (Walt), Jane V. Hunt, William McQuaide (Kim), Kathleen Connelly (Rodney), Teresa McQuaide Hauck and Francine Flower (Bill); sister of Anne Ballard; loving grandmother of 41 and great-grandmother of 34. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Velma was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Waves during World War II.
She was a founding member of St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Parish where she and her husband were co-chair people for the Carnival, a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, a member of The Serra Club, The Over 50 Club, Circle of Friends and Red Hatters.
Velma was an honorary member of Palmyra, Riverton and Cinnaminson Rotary Club, where she was a Paul Harris Fellow. She also was a member of Widows of Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was a member of Riverton Country Club where she enjoyed bowling and golfing. Velma was most proud of 22 consecutive years with the PTA at Holy Cross High School.
Relatives and friends are invited to Velma's life celebration and viewing 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Branch Pike and Pomona Road, Cinnaminson, where the funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson.
