Jake Prater, 71, of 300 West Center, died Sunday afternoon at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center.
A native of Oklahoma, he was a retired farmer and spent most of his life around the Newport area. He was a member of the Church of God.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary Jane Prater of the home; five step-sons, Marlie Tate, Sanford Tate, Wilford Tate, Qulin Tate and Darrel Tate, all of Jonesboro; six daughters, Mrs. Odell Foust, Mrs. Dorothy Britt, Mrs. Lucile Brownfield, Mrs. Shirley Watts and Mrs. Marcel Lingle, all of Newport and Mrs. Wanda Dorse of Texarkana; two step-daughters. Mrs. Vercie Dulaney of Bono and Mrs. Bernice Orr of Jonesboro; one sister, Mrs. Cora Smart of Jacksonport; 27 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 21 step-grandchildren; and 17 step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at Farmers Union Funeral Home chapel in Jonesboro. Early White and Leroy Franks will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery under the direction of Farmers Union Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
