FAIR HAVEN - Charles Earl Proctor, 79, of Fair Haven, died Thursday, July 28, 2011, at Rutland Health and Rehab Center following a long illness.

He was born March 16, 1932, in Rutland, the son of Harry and Martha (Howard) Proctor.

Charles graduated from Fair Haven High School in 1950.

He married Fanny Turner on October 16, 1954.

Charles was a long-time farmer. He owned and operated Proctor's Farm Equipment, a Massey Ferguson tractor dealership, for many years, until his retirement in 1991. After retirement, Charles drove bus for Fair Haven High School sporting events, and loved every minute of it. He especially enjoyed the kids and the chance to get a free meal at McDonald's after the games.

Charles was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Fair Haven, where he served as a deacon. Charles was a founding member of Fair Haven Rescue Squad, with over 15 years of service. He was also a brother Mason of over 50 years in Eureka Lodge #75.

He enjoyed his family, church, and was a loving husband to Fanny. His grandchilden were his favorite. He had a great sense of humor … and loved picking on the kids.

He is survived by his wife, Fanny (Turner) Proctor of Fair Haven; his children, James Proctor and his wife Sue (Anderson); Gail Proctor of Rochester; and Donald Proctor and his wife Amelia "Amy" (Goodrich) of Fair Haven; a brother Howard Proctor and his wife Patricia of Andover, N.H.; four grandchildren, Jamie Proctor-Brassard and her husband Jaime Brassard of Hinesburg; Gregory Proctor of Fair Haven; Benjamin Harvey of Rochester; and Nicholas Hollmann of Fair Haven. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him.

He was predeceased by his parents, and a sister, Shirley Coombs.

Friends may call on Saturday, July 30, 2011, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the Durfee Funeral Home, 119 North Main Street, Fair Haven.

Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Fair Haven.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made, in his memory to: Fair Haven Rescue Squad, 17 Prospect Street, Fair Haven.
