Donald A. Gottlob, 62, of Alton, died unexpectedly at 3:41 a.m. today....at Alton Memorial Hospital.
Gottlob was a World War II U. S Navy veteran and owned and operated Gottlob Service Station of Alton 15 years.
For 13 years, he was employed by McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Corp. in St. Louis. In 1962, he retired from Owens-illinois Inc. of Atlon, after six years of service.
Born in Alton, he was the son of the late William and Lela (Armstrong) Gottlob.
Surviving are three sons, Robert, Donald, and Terrance Gottlob, all of Alton; two grandchildren; a sister, Thelma Gottlob of Alton; and a brother, Paul Gottlob of Ft. Myers. Fla.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Julianne Gottlob.
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Thursday at Staten Funeral Home in Alton, where a prayer service will be read at 7 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Alton. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Alton.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or Marquette High School.

Donald was married to Maxine Avery in 1946 and had son, Robert M. in October, 1948. They were divorced in 1953. Donald married Betty Jean Wenzel in 1956 and they were the parents of: Donald M., Terrance E. and Julianne Marie.
