U.S. Congressman. Educated in the Civilian Conservation Corps, he was employed in the motorcar industry in Pontiac, Michigan, (1936-52) and was union steward to international representative for United Auto Workers-Congress of Industrial Organizations, (1942-52). He also was administrative aide to Senator Blair Moody, (1952-54), Assistant Secretary of State of Michigan, (1955-57), deputy secretary of State of Michigan, (1957-60) and Auditor General of Michigan, (1961-65). In 1965, he was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-ninth Congress, serving until 1967. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee, (1967-68) a member of the Waterford Board of Education, (1969-70) and owned a financial and management consulting firm. In 1975, he was elected Secretary of the Michigan State Senate and served until his death at age 63. The Michigan State Senate office is named in his honor.
