MR. R. RUFUS HUNNICUTT Age 90, of Tucker died Sunday, February 29, 2004 at Northlake Gardens Assisted Living Home. Rufus, a long-time member of Oakhurst Baptist Church, was recently celebrated as the oldest member and also the person with the longest membership at Oakhurst.

Born in Rutledge, GA April 6, 1913 to Robert, Sr. and Martha Luanna Hunnicutt, he was a Technical Sergeant in the Army in World War II and served as a ship welder in Savannah at that time. In the early 1950's Rufus owned a Royal Typewriter dealership in Mobile, AL.

He and his wife, Alta, moved back to Decatur upon the birth of their son, Gary, in 1954, and lived there 50 years. To the people that knew him, Rufus was a kind and generous man who loved his family and cared for his wife, and saw her through several injuries and illnesses in her later years. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this past year.

Rufus is survived by his wife, Alta Mae Pratt Hunnicutt; son, Gary Alan Hunnicutt; daughter, Indra Kristine Daugulis Hunnicutt; and grandson, Erick Alan Hunnicutt.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, March 3rd in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons with Rev. Lanny Peters officiating. Interment Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and 11a.m. to 12 noon Wednesday at A. S. Turner & Sons. Published in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution from March 1 to March 2, 2004
