Edith M. Solomon 96, of 512 N. 24th St. New Castle, died Saturday in Oakwood Healthcare Center following and extended illness.

A life resident of Henry County, she was a member of the Crossroads Church of God in New Castle and worked years ago at the Hoosier Cabinet Factory and the Maxwell auto Co. now Chrysler Corp. She was born Sept 20, 1899, in Mount Summit, a daughter of the late Will and Cora O'Neal Vanatta.

Surviving are four daughters, Olive (Mrs. Bob) Northrup and Doris (Mrs Bill) Jones, both of Anderson, and Vivian Mikels and Margaret Taylor, both of Elkhart: three sons, Charles (wife, Lena) Solomon and Richard Solomon, both of Tampa, Fla. and Robert (wife Lavaughn) Guffey of Elkhart: a daughter in law, Linda Solomon of Anderson: 52 grandchildren, including Patricia Kinnett of New Castle, who helped care for Mrs. Solomon; 39 great grandchildren: 13 great great grandchildren: a sister, Ruth Brookshire of New Castle; and a good friend, Zella Perdew of New Castle.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence in 1988; two daughters, Viola Solomon in 1935 and Ethel Mae Jackson in 1984; and five sons, Raymond and Thomas bothe in 1966, Robert in 1979, Junior in 1993 and Jack in 1994.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Main Frame and Hostetler Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny L. Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call 3-8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial may be directed to Crossroads Church of God.
