The Death of Richard Harrison Allen ...
According to the State of Illinois, Adams County Board of Health, a death certificate was issued for Richard Harrison Allen with a date of death listed as March 10, 1899. I have a copy of this death certificate in my possesion, it states that he was born in Cumberland County, Illinois and was 62 years and 5 days of age at the time of his death. His place of death is listed as 624 N. 10th Street, Quincy, Illinois. The cause of death is listed as "Grip" which he had for a period of 4 weeks & Pnuemonia he had for 7 days, which caused him to hemorage for 3 days in his lungs and finally caused his death. Funeral arrangements were made by Freiburg & Sons of Quincy and burial was on March 12, in the Graceland Cemetery at Quincy.
The following Obituary was printed in the Quincy, Illinois Morning Whig newspaper, dated March 11, 1899:
Allen:
After an illness of four weeks with grip and pneumonia, Richard H. Allen of No. 624 North 10th Street, passed away at an early morning hour yesterday morning. Deceased was born and reared in the state of Illinois and had lived in Quincy for 12 years. He is survived by his wife and the following children; Mrs. T. Robertson (Lydia Celia) of Fall Creek, Mrs. H. Hayes (L. Ada) of Quincy and Miss Fannie Allen of St. Joseph, Missouri.
