Glenn Arvil Pickett was born to Arvil Pickett and Grace Angeline Whetstone. His two older brothers and younger sister are Howard Leroy, Ernest David and Violet (Hart). He attended school in New Sweden and then in Idaho Falls at age twelve.

He married Marguerite Ann Nelson on May 23, 1933, in Dubois, Clark County, Idaho. Born to them are Dale Glenn, Dorothy (Duncan) and James "Jim" Brian.

Glenn started out in business for himself by purchasing freight trucks to haul coal from the mines east of Idaho Falls. Later on he changed to road construction, joining partners with Don Nelson in creating Pickett/Nelson Construction Company. They sold their business and retired in 1968. Glenn and Marguerite spent their retirement years wintering in Scottsdale, Arizona, and summering at home in Idaho Falls. They shared 60 years of marriage together until Marguerite passed away in December 1994.

During his years in business Glenn was on the Board of Directors of the Idaho Contractors Association and at one time was appointed to the State Licensing Board of Idaho Associated General Contractors.
