Family has stated that he was born in the Animas Mountains of New Mexico, contrary to what his various documentation states.

Based on census records, it appears that his children with Genoveva Arroyo were as follows:

- Rosaria [Rosa] Aguilar - (b 1895 - d 1964)
- Jose [Joe] Aguilar - (b 1895/d 1950)
- Luis Aguilar - (b 1898/1941)
- Juanita [Juana] Aguilar - (b 1901/d 1926)
- Lawrence [Lorenzo/Larry] Arthur Aguilar - (b 1907/d 1993)
- Gonzala Aguilar - (b circa 1910 - per 1910 & 1920 censuses)
- Dolores Aguilar - (b 1910/d 1976)
- Letha Aguilar - (b circa 1912 - per 1930 census) (NOTE: This may be Dolores as her husband's obituary, shows her middle name as having been "Lita" which was short for "Angelita".)

In addition, on the 1930 census, Clemente and Genoveva's grandson, Enrique Linares, was living in their home at the time of his (Enrique's) death in 1940 (Enrique was the son of Clemente's daughter, Juana, and her husband, Jose Linares).
