Elizabeth was known as "Eliza Jane" and "Aunt Lizzy". She never married; her family was made up of her sisters, brothers-in-laws, and nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth, her parents, and siblings lived in Manhattan, New York City from the 1850s to about the mid-1800s. Elizabeth's parents had died by the time of the 1880 census, and Elizabeth and her siblings were still living together in Manhattan.
In 1885 Elizabeth's brother, James, died, and about that time, her two sisters married and started moving to the western United States; Elizabeth went with them. All three sisters stayed close, usually living in the same towns together.
Elizabeth earned her living by managing rooming houses and working in hotels.
Elizabeth lived in Denver and Pueblo, Colorado for several years. She then moved to Ogden, Utah, but spent some time in Los Angeles, California, where she worked in a hotel. She moved back to Ogden, Utah, where she died in the home of one of her nieces: Elizabeth M. Schwab (Greenwell), daughter of Elizabeth's sister, Agnes.
Elizabeth was buried in the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Salt Lake City, Utah, the same cemetery where her sister, Margaret Ann Donnelly (Woodward) was buried.
