Indian Campaigns Medal of Honor recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Army in Company G, 6th US Cavalry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on December 14, 1877 at Simon Valley, Arizona. His citation reads "Engaged singlehandedly two renegade Indians until his horse was shot under him and then pursued them so long as he was able."
