U.S. Continental Congressman. Born the son of loyalist official James Habersham and he also was the brother of patriot leader Joseph Habersham. He attended Princeton College, engaged in mercantile pursuits and served in the Revolutionary War as a Major of the 1st Georgia Continental Regiment, Continental Army. In 1785, he was elected as a member of the Continental Congress. In addition he was appointed Indian agent by General Washington, appointed commissioner to the Beaufort convention to adjust the Georgia-South Carolina boundary and a member of the first board of trustees to establish the University of Georgia. He also was Secretary of the Georgia and collector of customs at Savannah, Georgia, from 1789, until his death at age 44.
