US Congressman, US Senator. Served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Elected to represent Georgia's 1st District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1885 to 1889. Also served as a Member of the Georgia State Legislature from 1861 to 1862, Candidate for Governor of Georgia in 1880, United States Senator from Georgia from 1871 to 1877, and State Court Judge in 1896.
