US Congressman. Born in Savannah, Georgia, he attended schools in England, graduated from Cambridge University and studied law in the office of Mr. Chitty in London. Returning to America, he was admitted to the bar and practiced law in Savannah, Georgia. In 1835, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-fourth Congress and reelected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress, serving until 1839. After his term, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 69 in Savannah, Georgia.
